Week 8 Essay, Dance and Trance.

Music is beautiful, it's also powerful, that's why the dance floor can be considered the "loci of true virtual reality." It allows us to be our true selves, and to do what we might not do any where else. Have you ever went to a club and found yourself dancing with someone you would not give the time of the day else where because of there looks, or race? Have you ever listened to the cornie pickup lines just because you were feeling the moment?  I believe this is because of the rhythm of the music,as the bass drum beats through your soul it puts you in a trance where we just want to move. Even some of the shyest people become someone else on the dance floor, there filled with an newfound courage, even the non dancers with no rhythm become perfect dancers. The dance floor is where we forget about color, race, and sometimes even gender. We don't even care if we can or can't dance, it's all about the connection we make with the other person. It's all about fun for the night the inhibition to do what we want and not be judged by society or even have to think about our morals, which went out the door when we stepped through the door. Now don't even talk about the night after, I think this is how most  people end up being up a one night stand. Add the lights, music, and liquor, and a rhythmic atmosphere this leads to a animal attraction. I was told how you move horizontally is how you move vertically. Dancing is some what of a matting ritual you get to feel the other person movement, it's like getting a pick into each others inner being. So go ahead free your mind, body, and soul, dance your way out of class.

Music and sex essay

Artist do have a moral responsibility for what they present to the public, and they need to be a wear of who there public audience is, because the group of people that listen to their music is the younger generation.  Madonna is a well know artists that has been around for years, and she is know for her racie videos and very sexual songs, most of which is inappropriate for her audience and i know this because when i was growing up I loved to listen to her music and watch her videos. the very first one i can remember seeing was, " like a virgan' and being a young impressionable teen I looked up to her, I loved her, and wanted to be her i even dressed like her( of course I had to hide this from my mother). and looking back i realize most of this i should not have been watching  Now with things being the way that they are today, and the younger kids being so ready to try anything, I do feel that the artist has a moral responsibility to sensor what they put out. They should be awear of who is listening to their music, and watching there videos because it's the younger generation that mimic everything they see and hear. the artist sets the trends for this generation, all the way down to the clothes, hair, and and the jewelry they wear.  All artist should realize that it's their moral duty to take a double look and listen to their own music and decide if they would allow their own children to listen to this and if the answer is no, then they should change it if there undecided or if there answer is yes then they need to reevaluate their own morals and take a good look at how our society has changed for the worse, when it comes to our youth.

Recrod companies and their responsibilities

I believe that all record companies should be responsible for putting parental advisories and labeling all explicit music, and that they should be held accountable for not doing so. I also believe that it should not stop with just labeling the music they make, I think the stores that sell the music should do their part by not selling explicit music to any person under the age of 18 unless they have been carded or they are accompanied by an adult . and then to follow up with this, the record stores should be treated like the fast food places  but instead of an inspection with a letter grade it should be an anonymous shopper watching to see if the clerk will sell to an under aged youth. Once these three steps are in place and done correctly. The control will be put back in the parents hands because they will have the ultimate say so and control over what they allow their children to listen to. And yes it does take a village to raise a child but, installing the correct morals and values you want your child to grow up with starts at home, because home is their first school and we as parents introduce them to television, music, and movies and we control what they see and hear. If the record companies and the stores that sell the music make it visible know which music is unsuitable for minors meaning any and every one under the age of 18. we as parent and a society under distress should be able to cut down the rate of violence in our youth. Now I'm not saying that this will work or happen over night, just like everything else in this world it takes time and only time will tell.

Punk Rock: The Madness in My Area

Punk Rock in misunderstood because of both reasons, times are changing and the generational gap,and not every one is ready for it. There was once a time when spitting, profanity, and lude Acts were unacceptable in music, now it's just seen as a part of life and the music we listen to. During concerts you will see all of this if not more. Even in music videos and not just rock videos, you see girls half naked grinding on each other and the men in the videos. There is more profanity in rock/rap music today than there has ever been, the music we listen to and videos we watch imply that it's ok to spit, throw blood, and even tampons at each other. And once apone a time all of this was wrong and (in most cases still is) disgusting, but at a rock concert it morally ok cause the younger generation accept it. it's the older generation that's not willing to deal with this uproar and don't understand it. Because of the generation gap and the unwillingness to give way to what they don't understand the older generation sees rock as savage, morally corrupting, and misleading. When they hear this it disturbs there ears, they don't hear the words nor do they try to understand it they just feel it's to loud and morally wrong because of the things they do at these concerts and on the videos. Now on the other hand the people that love rock feel that they are just having a good time and are not hurting anyone, they can sympathize with the music and they understand all the words, at that time in life, life is just a party. Personally I am not a fan of rock music and there is only a few rap songs that I will listen to and it's all because my ears are sensitive I cant take all that noise, so if there are a lot of people like me that could be a reason rock music is so misunderstood, there is a lack of understanding for what there are saying, and what there point is. and what they are trying to express. Even though I'm not a fan I would not ban it and if I heard it was being banned from certain country's I would be appalled because every one is entitled to there opion, and freedom of speech and music weather it be rock, rap, country, or opera it's a form of freedom of speech that should not be taken away.

Out of Tune: Youth and Morality

Allan David Bloom stated that music is young people's passion, nothing eles excites them as music does. They can not take seriously anything alien to music. I think this is an over generalization, yes the younger generation love their music but it's not the only thing they love, and I don't believe it has a big influince on how the live there lives.everyone doen'nt take music littliry some just like the beat and for the ones that do listen to the words I dont think it makes them go out and do anything irrasational. I also dont think that It's the only thing that they have a passion for, my daughert falls under the age group that he talkes about, and she loves art she loves to draw. Yes she has her ipod and yes it's in her ear a lot but it does not influience her to do anything out of her norm. She's 15 and listens to rap, but she does not wear the tight skirts or little shorts that you see people wear on T.V. she's mostly in the house with her color penciles and drawing pad. I also have a 12 year son that loves to dance with or without music that's his passion, so not all young people are only intune with music.
Bloom also feels that music is behind the violence and sexual behavior that younger people exhibit, I feel this is also untrue, you see more violence and sexual behavior on HBO and in the news than you hear in a rap song. just about every channel you turn to you see a sex sean, even in the news theres a esx scandle. So we can't blame music for the way our youth acts we have to look inward. we must make sure that we install the proper morales into our youth so that know right from wrong even before they learn what music is and all this starts at home, no matter how much everyone wants to blame music for socity's issues I just dont believe that it will work because the way our youth acts only exhibits what they were tought at home. I think Bloom and every one eles that feel like him need to reevaluate there way of thinking, was is rock music that made the president have oral sex with someone other than his wife? was it rock misic that made the preist molest the little boy? was it rap music that made the father and son kill all those poeple on the highway? I think not, so you see the music that the younger people listen to has nothing to do with the way they act or sex and violence, it's just an way out for people that dont want to admit they messed up, that they went wrong some wear down the line and did not teach the right morals to there children.

Music playes a big part in my life, Just about everything I do is done to music. When I'm studing I have to have the music playing, when I'm cleaning it's playing, and even during family night we have the music blasting.  Mucis is a stress reliver for me, it helps to calm my spirit. I listen to all types of music, the mood im in determine the type of music I listen to at that moment. It has also opened up a better line of communaction between my children and myself, we love to dance together, while doing this they explain there music to my and it gives me a chance to explain my music to them, I call it my bridge between generations. Music as also helpped me to better understand the people around me, when you really listen to the words they explain alot about people and different cultures. Let's take rap for an instance, It tells a story about people living in the getto, raising out of poverty, abuse, and violance. I can relate to this besause it once was my life. Now you have what I call the oldies which entitle scuh artis like the temtation, OJ's and the stylistic, I relate to this type of misic because it makes me feel love, and passion. This music bridges the gap between my mother and I this is when we sit down with a glass of something and enjoy eachother's company. Now gosple has oppened up my heart and mind this is truely a music that has changed my life, listening to this music makes me think about every thing around me and every thing going on in my life.Gosple is what inspired me to move out of LosAngeles, to better my life, and to become closer with my family. Before this I think I was a bitter person because of the thinkgs I've seen and been through in my life, but through gosple I have joy and inner peace
